Public Awareness & Education

Promoting understanding of biotechnology, biosafety, and emerging technologies through continuous education and stakeholder engagement.

The National Biotechnology Authority (NBA) is committed to promoting public understanding of biotechnology, biosafety, and emerging biotechnologies through continuous education, awareness, and stakeholder engagement.

Biotechnology is transforming agriculture, healthcare, industry, and environmental management, creating new opportunities to improve food security, economic growth, and sustainable development. As these technologies continue to evolve, it is important that the public has access to accurate, balanced, and science-based information to make informed decisions.

As Zimbabwe's biosafety regulatory authority, the NBA plays a key role in ensuring that biotechnology is developed and applied safely, responsibly, and in accordance with national laws and international best practices. Public awareness is central to this mandate, fostering transparency, building confidence in regulatory processes, and encouraging informed participation in biotechnology-related matters.

Our Awareness & Education Programmes

Our awareness and education programmes are designed to:

  • Increase public understanding of biotechnology, biosafety, genome editing, and other emerging technologies.
  • Raise awareness of the NBA's regulatory mandate and its role in protecting human health, animal health, and the environment.
  • Promote science-based information that addresses myths and misinformation surrounding biotechnology.
  • Encourage dialogue and meaningful stakeholder participation in biotechnology policy and regulatory processes.
  • Support responsible innovation, research, and commercialization of biotechnology for Zimbabwe's socio-economic development.
  • Inspire students and young professionals to pursue education and careers in biotechnology and related scientific fields.

The NBA works closely with government institutions, research organisations, universities, industry, civil society, development partners, the media, and local communities to ensure biotechnology information is accessible, accurate, and relevant to all Zimbabweans.

Through public lectures, school outreach programmes, exhibitions, media engagement, digital platforms, publications, stakeholder workshops, and community awareness campaigns, the NBA continues to promote a well-informed society that understands both the opportunities and the responsibilities associated with biotechnology.

Our Goal

To increase public understanding, confidence, acceptance, and responsible use of biotechnology through sustained education, science communication, and stakeholder engagement.
